- happy new year!
- mid pleasures and palaces though we may roam,
be it ever so humble, there's no place like home. - -john howard payne
in all the world my nest is best.
-dr. seuss

margaret brought me an abandoned birds nest.
she found this tiny treasure while walking the dogs in the park.

this will be my year of the abandoned nest.
in the next few weeks i will be packing up my studio and moving it all. i am loaning our second house (my studio) to friends in need.

some of my treasures will be moved home and most will be scattered to the winds, as they say.
i am terrified to give up my fortress of solitude and skeptical that i will be able to carve out any space to work in this house.
yet i am hopeful, that i may finally learn not to live a fractured life. that i will gracefully integrate my creative life with the rest of the mess.

wow, how kind of you to give up your sanctuary. what a bold and generous thing to do. i love the nest analogy. and i love that someone brought you a nest! a neighbor child brought me a bluebird egg he found and said he knew it needed to come to my house! so sweet. my husband and i just went out looking for nests in a lot across the street that is being torn down - making way for new mcmansions (ick). we found 5 nests and i was happy to get them out of there, away from the carnage of bulldozers and fallen trees.
