Go Home Squirrel - You're Drunk

A sentence you'd never thought you'd say, "let's do a drunken squirrel."

Straw-bear-y

Straw-bear-y
Just a goofy doodle.
(ball point ink and colored pencil on paper)

I save all the doodles in a box and when I have a show, or open studio, I let 'em rip.

Using archival photo corners I mount them on archival comic book backer boards and then slip each one into an archival comic book sleeve. A super way to get them out there safely, economically and in a nice tidy package. Get them at your local comic book store (duh).

Another piece of poster art.
My favorite part of the drawing is the cubby's butt tail.

Christmas Came & Christmas Went

He sees you when you're sleeping...

...and it shook when he laughed like a bowlful of jelly.

It dropped more needles than it kept but we loved it anyways.

I even kept some of the ornaments I made.

Many records were played on the old mono record player. This was my holiday favorite.
Time to pack it all up and stuff it back up the chimney.

Cookies and Beer

Another holiday party poster done!
Beer, ugly X-mas sweaters, whiskey, big beef and rock & roll - what could possibly go wrong?

Oops, I postered again.
I love making band posters, especially for this knucklehead's band.

Busted Valentines

Another recent poster design.

Imagine how happy I was when I found the vintage artwork of busty woman who is busted behind bars - in red no less - for the band Busted Valentines?

Don't Go Drinkin' On An Empty Heart

Look! I made a poster.
My life as a graphic designer seems like a million years ago.
It's much more fun to do as a pass time than as a job.

My favorite part was fashioning a heart shaped cherry and adding it to the whiskey.

Not So Business-y Cards

I whipped up an exuberant and frothy new business card for my painted work.

I really just could not do the understated, elegant thing... I even chose a shiny paper stock.

Monster Pendants

Big heart pendants.
They're almost 2" long.
The base glass on these is Effetre "Orange Sparkle."

The heart on the right just has a band of fine silver wire melted in.

The one on the left was an 'end of the day' bead. I used up all the leftover bits of glass, silver foil and a stray murrini that had rolled off my marver. You really should try making an end of the day bead with your stray bits, they usually turn out great.

Same old, same old here.
Watching old monster movies on Netflix and working on jewelry late at night.

Tonight it was "Gidrah - "The Three Headed Monster."
Loving the typography.

There are some new little birds.

Clowning Around or Cheap Cheep

One of our local public art spaces is called the 'Rochester Contemporary' or RoCo for short.

Each year their main fundraiser is an event called 6x6.

Artists from all over the world donate thousands of 6" x 6" works that are sold for $20 a piece.
It's insane fun.

So this very well turned out woman sashays into my studio during a public event and asks if I am going to make more birds for 6x6. She tells me loudly, to impress the room, that she got one a few years ago on opening night and would like to get another one "on the cheap."

I knew instantly I would NOT be making more birds for RoCo this year.

Here are my 6x6 paintings for this year - come and get 'em lady.

the 600

I was a late comer to Pinterest.
It was just tumblr for housewives right, something akin to Farmville with recipes?

Then I figured out it was a great way to save and sort images.
Now I also find how-to information and store all sorts of computer flotsam and jetsam there.

And now I have over 600 "followers."
Who are these people looking in my underwear drawers of computer stuff?

Ok, I get that there are lots of us who adore poodle stuff and I do have a nice folder full of weird poodle pictures, products and trinkets. You can click here to see my horde of poodle crap.

But how many people could share my obsession with red and white polka dot mushrooms, or want to see what I have collected on the subject of rhubarb?

Perhaps you're a glass bead maker like me and looking for free tutorials and technical information?
I have a folder for that - here.

Maybe you just want it all!
Here is the link to my silly Pinterest.

Furry Florida

I spent the last two and a half weeks in Florida hanging out with my dad.
He spends a lot of time asleep in his motorized recliner chair, his cat Snowy naps right there beside him.

I'm more of a 'dog person' than a 'cat person.'
Yet, we forged a furry bond of sorts. I took antihistamines and she howled at me for catnip treats.
Miss Snowy has the same hairstyle as Hitler.

My Dad has TV trays set up for her in strategic sunny window spots around the house.

The Florida weather was gorgeous and I took her for lots of cat walkies.
Walking a cat is not for someone with a logical mind or anything better to do.
A single walk to the mailbox and back can take up to 30 minutes.
There's a lot of spontaneous catatonic flopping, grass eating, gecko chasing, dramatic pouncing, twitching and sudden mysterious freezing in place.

Her only trick is doing an impression of a dead bug. Nailed it.

She has a mesmerizing electric water fountain - very zen.

Man, I missed my dogs.

Snow Day!

There will be no grilling today.

No fancy drinks on the patio.

No long walks in the park.

No joyriding.
Only a profoundly lazy pajama day.
