i re-worked a dozens of 'mexican voodoo' pendants.
they're more fun when they have little fetish objects dangling off their bottoms, so i took all the old ones apart and gave them charms.
the guy on the above left has an old brass charm from niagara falls.
the little dead guy on below, on the right, with the gun is my red white & blue homage to the nra.
finding enough charms was a summer long garage sale & flea market project. no single earring or crappy charm bracelet was safe, i sifted thru every box of broken jewelry. looking for religious medals, subway tokens, cracker jax prizes and any kind of shiny flotsam.
one thing i learned looking at all that unwanted jewelry is that the 80's were an awesome time for earrings - bigger was better and crazy was best.
my daughter does not have pierced ears but she does have her septum pierced - oh well. she loves giant clip on 80's earring monstrosities. some day i should do a post documenting her best pairs. no earring is too big, or too weird, for miss sophmore art student.
that clown face is so perfectly creepy.

white birch & tar
a new bracelet.
dark silver plum beads, that look like bits of road tar, mixed with fresh water pearls.
the focal bead is dark ivory tab swirled with raku and then framed with 'twigs' of dark silver plum glass. it reminds me of white birch bark.
it's miserably wet and cold here. a dank, chilling fog hung in the air all day.
sparkling wet fallen leaves in the driveway.

artist's row snapshots
it was too cold and too busy to even think of taking pictures yesterday. luckily jacqueline was thoughtful enough to take some for me.
the painting & knitted hat side of the booth.
these are from a few years ago.
they're oil paintings of vintage plush toys.
the infamous beanie baby cap.
martha bought the sweet death hat.
not only did jacqueline take photos for me - but when she left the show she went home and made a lovely cabbage roll dinner for us.
they were the cabbage rolls of the gods.

dog tired
thank you to everyone who braved artist's row yesterday.
the show was a remarkably successful, never mind it rained a wicked sideways autumn mist all day. everything (including me) was damp, cold, gray and dreary.
a bit of everything sold, paintings, jewelry, lots of loose beads and even a couple of my weird knitted hats. as promised, i will list some of my leftover favorites on etsy, things i am sure would have found a home if the rain had stopped and the sun bothered to come out.
right now i am nursing the beginnings of a cold, sore throat and earache brought on by yesterday's all day soaking. that means it's time to gather the dogs and have a nap. is there anything a dog loves more than a gang nap?

howe caverns <3
a new charm bracelet.
i started with a nice, heavy sterling silver bracelet and added my own charms.
the centerpiece charm is a lovely brass, enamel and mother or pearl vintage howe caverns locket. it works perfectly and is ready for someone to hide their secret love photos inside.
the other charms are my flameworked glass beads, freshwater pearls, mexican turquoise, mother of pearl beads, and tumbled onyx hearts. all the findings are sterling silver.
yes, it will be for sale on sunday at artist's row.
my space is in shed a, booth 8.

new audubon paintings
a whole new batch/flock of small audubon paintings.
each one is acrylics on arches paper.
catbird
bohemian waxwing
brown capped chickadee
boat tailed grackle
american dipper (1)
american dipper (2)
worm-eating warbler
other chickadees
house wren
i actually painted these at my kitchen table, something new for me. i think i had a better studio set up when i was a toddler than i do these days. i cannot ever remember having absolutely no space of my own to paint in.
one day, i suppose, i will have a studio again. but not today.

the queen's night out
a couple of late night snapshots of queen anne's lace growing in jacqueline's vegetable garden.
today was a stupidly busy day, but i did manage to finally finish nearly a dozen small bird paintings for artist's row this sunday. i feel satisfied and very tired.
why would anyone think of this flower as a weed?

new brooches
i have been scavenging bits of antique jewelry at garage sales, estate sales and flea markets all summer.
in some cases i took the original brooch apart, others were already missing parts.
i altered them by adding my glass beads, freshwater pearls and gems.
these are all headed to 'artist's row' at the public market next sunday (september 21st).
alas, i am not really ready to sell them, they are so newly made that we are still on our honeymoon.
