36 Ways to Say "I Love You"

For my show, which opens this Friday, I made 36 of these small conversation heart paintings.

Each one is an oil painting and measures 4" x 4."

The exhibition is a cash and carry sort of an affair. So if you want one of these to give as a Valentine you can take it with you right then and there. Each one will be $30.00. They're on 'cradled' boards so they're all ready to hang on the wall, no expensive framing necessary.

All of these little bird confections have big, goofy, ornate frames.

T-miuns 6 days and counting until my opening!
I am really getting over-excited.
There are 58 new paintings and a pile of new drawings. Plus there will be pin back buttons with images of some of these new paintings. Also a new t-shirt. Phew!

Kiki's Nose

Ooh hi ! I'm Kiki.

No, I was not named after disco diva Kiki Dee, but after the artist's muse Kiki de Montparnasse.
To know me is to know my nose because I do all my thinking with it.

My sweet nose will be the first thing you see every morning and the last thing at lights out.

It will constantly monitor your status as the day goes on.

I love sniffing you, and everything else in the entire world.

My nose is my favorite.

post script: 7 February 2011 - just adding a picture of Miss Kiki's nose in its' fancy frame below.

The 2-Headed Love Show

My show cards have arrived!

Maybe I should have called it "The Show that Ate my Life" rather than "The 2-Headed Love Show."

The show's name refers to what was, until now, my private internal aesthetic war. Part of me makes hi-brow, smart girl art - that's Lucinda. And then there's Belvedere. She a lo-brow kinda broad who likes to paint unicorns, mushrooms, eyeballs and cupcakes. She doesn't give a fig if it's relevant or not as long as it's shiny. She's pretty sure that glitter is better than brains.

I have been painting non-stop for 2 weeks now, painting like it's my job and then some. Usually from around noon until midnight. Stay tuned, there is so much new imagery to share.

Ceramic Beads

This is a snapshot from my friend Nancy's studio.

She creates large ceramic sculptures, like the hanging piece of 'tree jewelry' suspended in front of her window.

Nancy had a gang of ladies over to make beads. See my flock of porcelain birds? They're perched on toothpicks so that there glazes can dry. They are not really green, the clear glaze is tinted with a phantom green so that you can see where you're putting it as you paint it on. Nancy swears that it disappears when fired.

I can pick them up tomorrow.

It was great to get a bead fix.
I am currently without a torch and will be for at least another six weeks. I think I may have found a new place to rent some time, which will hold me over until I finally get my own space and torch set-up.

There is plenty to keep me busy until then.
I have a show of paintings that opens at the beginning of February.
More on that later, but I am painting and painting my old, fat fingers to the bone.

Winter Whites

The snow is as high as a poodle's eye.

Our little dogs were not thrilled with their first trip out the door this morning. The weather is very, very white here today.

Ear Dangles

Despite the fact I cannot seem to ever sell any earrings on Etsy I listed a handful of pairs.

Nice, nice ones with hand hammered sterling wires and my lampwork glass beads at the dangles.

Caviar Dreams

Just a glimpse of what we whipped up for New Year's eve.

Deviled eggs, half with salmon roe and half with wasabi tobiko - it's just like crafting, but with food.
